January 15, 2018 – Honoring the Memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As the readers of our blog know, I have quoted from Dr. King’s speeches on occasion. He was an eloquent man who made a difference. I’d like to share some of my favorite quotes by Dr. King to start the new year and to remind us of Dr. King’s message – love and hope.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

“Let no man pull you so low as to hate him.”

“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

and finally – a great theme for the new year:

“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way”

Amen.
