This will be the first time I’ve used this forum to recommend a current movie – I’m not sure I can recommend the movie for the story as much for the visuals and soundtrack. I was (almost literally – very loud) blown away by the cinematography and amazing score from the new Blade Runner 2049. One of the reviews called it a “feast for the eyes” and they weren’t kidding. We saw it in 3D, while not necessary because of the already stunning images, was worth the extra couple of dollars.
The original movie was a cult classic for our generation. This was another of Philip K. Dick’s dystopian novels imagined for the big screen (others include Total Recall and Minority Report), it had a loyal but small fan base as the movie was cut and recut. First there was Blade Runner, which had a much too happy ending so it was reconfigured via a 1992 Director’s Cut, and later Scott’s definitive Final Cut. We watched the Blade Runner – The Final Cut before going to see this version, while not necessary, it sure put us in the mood.
The movie moved slow but steady and kept my attention despite the almost 3 hour running time. I was exhausted after the movie despite the slow pace. I’m not sure everyone reading this will enjoy the story – but I’m sure everyone will enjoy the cinematography and soundtrack. Absolutely stunning.
